Pathan & Pokhara ~ Nepal
« Your words are dormant in the strings of my heart (Muna Madan) »

Nepal… From Pathan to Pokhara. First of all, it’s a journey about sound, more than visual. Sound is everywhere, saturated, and offers no break. In Riken’s family house, in Pathan, there’s a garden which was, for me, occidental traveller, a perfect place to rest; because in Nepal, everything is intense, noise of course, but also scents, religion, visual, tastes that exploded my buds. So I used that home to regenerate myself.

Riken loves Gypsy Jazz, which he learn to play using youtube tutorials. Every time he lays, there’s a guitar in his hands. When he’s practising, there are often kids playing around the house. But once you move away from this Thebaïde, streets are nothing else than a bruitist symphony of horns with a layer of voices from otioses people. It is the place where you can spit the dirt produced by a throat clearing beside the saturated songs of the car stereos. In spiritual places, like Bodnath, mantras, and prayer wheels are mixed with the sound of the urban cacophony.

In Pokhara, human activity’s noises are tinier, nature is the true soloist, but with the same intensity, like this moment, just the before the storm, that ends this track.
Nepal is the place where the noise doesn’t sleep.

Recording places: Pathan (Riken’s place), Pathan streets, late afternoon prayer in Bodnath, dirt road in Pokhara, before the storm, Pashupatinath in a bell.

Sound; poetry… From the rhyme comes a chord, metrics rhythm my steps in the city, big score. Sound is, for me, like literature, a book I’m hearing. My creations are extracts from a diary where emotions are vibrating sculptures.

«  J’écoute
les paysages sinuant dans le dénouement
de leurs forces
Je regarde
le chant des terres lourdes
où je marche
le poids de mon être sur les talons  »
