'Veikau Loa' means 'deep forest in the Fijian language. This track was recorded at dawn in one of Fiji's last remaining pristine rainforests. It features the sounds of endemic birds along with dewdrops falling from the forest canopy above.

Hi, I’m Marc, founder of Wild Ambience.
I’m a nature sound recordist and photographer based in Sydney, Australia.
My audio work focuses on capturing the beauty of sound in the natural world. I love listening to and recording the sounds of biodiversity – from vibrant habitat soundscapes to the sounds of individual species. Wild Ambience is my way of sharing what I hear with the world.
My sound recordings have been used in wildlife documentaries, films, musical compositions, museum exhibits, sound art installations, birding apps and more. More information on my commercial work can be found on the ‘License Nature Sounds‘ page.
Since 2011 I have published 32 albums of natural soundscapes, and over the coming years I plan to release many more. The albums are a way of showcasing some of my favourite sound recordings. Often I record 20 to 50 hours of audio over a period of a few days once I find a good recording location. After carefully listening to and reviewing the sounds, I select highlights which represent the most musical, rhythmic, interesting or relaxing sections of the audio and compile these into an album. Notes are added in the album description to tell the story of the place and the journey to find the sound as well as give details on the species that can be heard. Currently I’m working my way through a long backlog of field recordings and look forward to publishing new albums from Australia, Malaysia, Thailand and Nepal in the near future.
In 2013 I developed and launched Nature Soundmap, a geospatial project which allows users to explore nature soundscapes and wildlife sounds using Google maps. This project is a collaboration of over 90 nature sound recordists from around the globe and features some of nature’s most beautiful, interesting and inspiring sounds. Currently there are over 400 recordings from 85 countries on Nature Soundmap.
