Taman Negara ~ Elephant cave ~ Malaisia
«The Bats of Elephant Cave, 12th of March 2018»

This recording was made in Taman Negara, thought to be the oldest remaining rainforest on earth, in Elephant cave.
The journey to and from Elephant cave was a 7 hour walk/stumble through virgin rainforest, which appeared, at times, to consist solely of multiple trip hazards, with creeping vines, exposed roots, terrestrial leaches, and mud.
Upon my morning arrival I clambered up the outside of the limestone outcrop, which housed the cave, and came upon an opening in the rock where I could hear the bats inside. I started recording and, after some time, began to hear what sounded like human voices, along with the sounds of the bats. I was miles from civilisation, and later, when I entered the cave system, I found no humans.
