The following soundscape was created from material recorded in Puketi Forest on the North Island of New Zealand.The Puketi and Omaha forests span over 17,000 hectares of New Zealand’s Northland region, home to a wide variety of native flora and fauna, the Waipapa river runs through the centre of these two forests helping to support the wealth of life that thrives there. During the late nights early mornings I would wander along the river with my recorder waiting for the forest to come alive with a beautiful cacophony of insects, birds and animals. Recorded using a variety of microphones and techniques this soundscape seeks to explore the hidden sonic world of the Puketi forest.

James Osland is an audio and visual artist currently residing in Devon, United Kingdom. His work seeks to explore our relationships with sound memory and place. With previous releases through Sonospace, Flaming Pines, Green Field Recordings and Rusted Tone Recordings his work encompasses a wide range of creative approaches.
