Ánima, means heart in Mixteco language. This piece is based on different sound landscapes of Oaxaca, to tell a specific story with the use of real voices and problems about the dispossession of land and territory.
This piece has three parts, the first, is an offering to Mother Earth, some of the field recordings were made in the community of Capulalpam in the Sierra Juárez during a ceremony of gratitude to the water and other recordings of the rain and thunders that were made in the Cañada Mazateca. The second part is the conflict over the dispute of the territories for mining projects in the north of the country and the wirrarikas. And the final part is a reflection about the lack of communication we have with the nature, with the sound environment that surrounds us.
There are 4 languages that appear in Ánima; Mazateco, Mixteco, Zapoteco and Spanish, to show the musical value of the voices and their beauty, as well as the weight of the meaning of the words: Heart, rain, butterfly, a game of repetition like a mantra. The music is from La Banda Zampoaltépetl under the direction of maestro Eleazar Hernandez and Rufino López. Oscar Laynez was in charge of the mastering
