Morne Mazeau and Anse-Bertrand Guadeloupe ~ Deshaies ~ France
« La pli bel anba la bay »
Gilles Monfort
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
La pli bel anba la bay is a broad sound phantom ride in space and time, starting from the Caribbean Sea around 4 am, and ending on top of a hill in late morning.
This soundscape has been composed from field recordings made in Guadeloupe (West Indies) in march 2017, notably off Deshaies, at Morne Mazeau and Anse-Bertrand.
The title of this piece, La pli bel anba la bay, “The fairest one is under the bushel”, is a Guadeloupean proverb meaning that the most beautiful things in life are hidden, and we have to look for them.
Many thanks to Pierre Lavagne de Castellan of the Shelltone Whale Project.
