Kotori no Mori ~ Fukushima ~ Japan
« Kotori no Mori »
Koji Nagahata + Dominique Balaÿ
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Koji,
please find below the invitation for this soundscape project I told you about yesterday.
We could imagine a simple way of collaboration around our common interest in Fukushima soundscapes.
Mixing some of your sounds and some provided by me.
For example, I would see a continuous sound which could serve as a frame for a selection of 3 or 4 of your field recordings in Fukushima.
For this continuous sound I would create, I'm thinking right now about something quite abstract, maybe created from a textile manipulation that I brought back from Fukushima (Litate to be precise). And I will
apply a "stretch" effect, as to dilate the sound to a maximum (to symbolize the dilation of the
time induced by this catastrophe that will not find a term for a thousand years).
Then a very simple editing, just two intricate tracks, yours and mine.
Dear Dominique,
I uploaded two morning' sounds recorded at Kotori no Mori (Forest for
birds) in 2012. Those sounds were originally recorded for making a sound
installation regarding soundscapes after 3.11. The site was one of the
most famous hot spots in Fukushima city, and therefore, I was the only
people in the mountain, when I recorded this sound. Before the quake,
many people enjoyed walking in the morning in that season, and
therefore, these sounds are so symbolic to express the soundscape after 3.11.
Dear Dominique,
I uploaded my voice at the same URL (URL below).
Also, I uploaded the sound of dose meters recorded nearly the same period at another hot spot. If my memory is correct, the environmental radiation level at the point was nearly the same as that of Kotori no Mori.
