«  Island Armonies »

¨Island Armonies¨ is a creation based in the natural sounds of Isabel Island, a tropical ecosystem located in the Pacific Ocean in western Mexico. The piece begins with the sounds of soft waves recorded on the main beach, characterized by its coarse sand of volcanic origin as well as parts of the coral reef. Then we can hear the sounds produced by one of the largest nesting colonies of Magnificent Frigatebird that exist in Mexico. The birds open and close their beaks so fast producing very particular sounds that serve them in their reproductive display. In the final part of the piece we submerged ourselves to listen under the sea, those waters so productive that they have become a National Park.

Sandra Gallo-Corona

Sandra Gallo-Corona is a biologist pioneer in nature sound recording in Mexico. She has specialized in the deep listening and study of the song of the birds through the use of bioacoustics; technique used to understand aspects related with ecology, biogeography and evolution. Her career includes important acoustic records of biodiversity in natural protected areas and those sounds produced by species unique to Mexico. Her professional career has been characterized by a fusion of science and art using soundscapes to develop projects of environmental education and scientific communication.
