This piece is made from recordings taken on a balloon trip my son Angus and I did in Goreme, Turkey in 2011. Such a beautiful time away. Goreme is one of the world's great ballooning sites and there were many balloons in the air with us during that early morning ride. It was our first time in a balloon and the sense of wonder was high, as was the awareness of just how high we were. Fear and wonder, every sense alert. Wonderful.

I was born in Adelaide in 1957. Grew up there. I love that my children won't have to do that, be in that Australia. 1976 was the first time I saw live music that wasn't a rock band. John Cage. Loved it.
A few years later I met another person interested in art which led to me joining an an artist collective, making installation work, making sound for other artists, exhibition and so on. My partner and I met there and are still together. Two grown up children.
1990, we are in Brisbane with a baby daughter and the precarious art income had me off to the University of Queensland for the student support payments and to study cognitive science. Came out with a university medal and PhD in non-clinical Psychiatry. Went into academia where I was not at all happy. The lost years.
I still managed to do some sound work and write for REALTIME, Australia’s major contemporary performing arts magazine
The second the kids grew old enough and their careers took them to other parts of Australia, I wound down my academic career and returned to the arts.

Most widely known recent work has been collaborating with Waanyi artist Judy Watson, providing sound design and general media savvy for her video and installation work – exhibited at Ikon in Birmingham; National Gallery Canberra for Defying Empire: 3rd National Indigenous Art Triennial; lots of places. Meeting and working with Indigenous artists has been a profound and humbling experience.

Australia has a brutal history. More needs to change.
