I recently moved to a villa on a residential street in Dubai, very close to the downtown area. Outside there is a quiet street with trees and lot’s of bird activity in the mornings. As I’m in the middle east there is of course the call to prayer 5 times per day the the first one of the day, Fajr, was at 04:05am on the day I recorded. I wanted to record this and the relative quietness after it ended including the morning chorus and the start of some activity on the street.
I recorded for about 2 hours and there was quite a lot of activity, garbage trucks etc which I didn’t want to include so excluded most of the traffic and any talking. Gardeners tend to be watering etc at that time as well and I decided to remove that. The final edit is what it sounds like much of the time in the morning.
I will add that it was already 34˚C at that time in the morning so there is AC hum throughout the recording, unfortunately that’s just something you get used to living here.
Recorder: Sound Devices MixPre6-I
Microphone: Pearl Microphones MSH-10 (MS Stereo)
Recorded in MS and widened slightly in post
Processed and edited in Nuendo with a small amount of mastering in Wavelab.
