Morro do Pai Inácio/Chapada da Diamantina ~ Bahia/Brazil
«  Cactus Soundscape »
Rodrigo Ramos

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are now in Chapada da Diamantina, at the foot of Pai Inácio Hill, in the backwoods of the State of Bahia -Brazil, where the Caatinga ecosystem predominated. The only ecosystem exclusively Brazilian.
Have you ever heard the sound of Mandacaru or Xique-xique? They are species of cactus and have served for all the sonority of percussion present in this soundscape, their thorns sound like marimbas, atabaques, congas, double bass and even water.
The birds, crickets, wind and the walk on dry branches fill the soundscape, which was recorded with contact microphones, binaural microphone and a shotgun condenser.
This sound landscape is part of the Vazios Habitados (Void Inhabited) project. Film / audiovisual installation wich is under production at this moment, made in partnership with the Duo Strangloscope (Claudia Cárdenas and Rafael Schiliting) and the photographer Felipe Vernizzi.
Vazios Habitados (Void Inhabited) aims to explore the sound and visual materiality of the nature of the Chapada da Diamantina, a region made up of caves, waterfalls and rivers that contrast with the dry vegetation of the Caatinga.
