Babakan Siliwangi (also known as Baksil) is a 3.8 Hectare urban forest in Bandung, Indonesia. It is part of the green belt of Bandung and is a recreation place for the locals there. On 27 September, 2011, the United Nations certified Babakan Siliwangi as a world urban forest.
The location of Babakan Siliwangi which is not far from the city center (located north of downtown Bandung) makes Babakan Siliwangi become Green Open Space / Ruang Terbuka Hijau (RTH) which is most affordable by the citizens of Bandung.
In its journey, the management of Babakan Siliwangi experienced a lot of controversy, especially the existence of the transfer plan management of Babakan Siliwangi to private parties who plan the development which can be commercialized.
So I try to respond it, by recording or documenting it in audio and visual form. As a moment artifact that can not be repeated again, and maybe it will be lost or we will miss it in the future. The great thing about sound is that sense of recall, we have such a powerful memory for sound.
For the technique, I recorded field recording with Zoom R8 in Babakan Siliwangi (morning, 2018), then I mixed audio like collage technique (not just documentation but composition), then some samples I put together then I stretch, so it's like droning sounds. The concept is minimal approach, with abstract touch.
