« Abriko* ,The land of the outdoors"
Gilles Mardirossian

A small village in Haiti:

« Abriko* ,The land of the outdoors" between paradise and hell.
(* « Apricot » in Haitian creole)

Far from Port-au-Prince, it's chimeras, it's violence, the corruption that gangrene the country, is a small fishing village with a beautiful beach surrounded by coconut trees and a river with turquoise reflections are the delight of villagers, and few visitors dare to venture along a long, rocky, winding and dangerous road to reach the limit of the "country outside".
We are in the Grand 'Anse, in a commune with the evocative name of one of the rare fruits "native" of the region.
But when we approach the village, we feel that "the earth creaks with contentment, buttons, blooms. Men breathe. They reconnect with life. (Jean Claude Fignolet: Haitian writer and former mayor of « Abriko »)
The book of history in the schools of Haiti, tells that "Apricot" is the paradise of the Indians and that according to the Indian legend, before the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, the souls of the Indians flew there, place their last rest.
The good ones tasted tropical apricots and the bad ones had to feed on the apple of the mancenillier which is a violent poison.
Indeed, arriving at the Abriko gives the feeling of being in a kind of Paradise on earth, but soon heaven is threatened and can be transformed into hell, repeatedly ravaged by hurricanes and floods ("Matthew in 2016") but also by the old disaster that continues to eat away at the land: the deforestation to feed the gigantic coal kilns that abound in the area.

In his novel "The possessed of the full moon", Jean Claude Fignolet wrote: "Our land is a strange land, a land of spells and evil spells" (...) "she was crying the earth at night. Dry tears sprayed at the slightest breeze, scattered to the four winds. She hurt the eyes, the earth. It entered your nose, it entered your throat and stifled you, the earth. Day and night, for months, she agonized, inducing men to idleness, thus condemning herself to forced rest ». A heavenly land surrounded by hell.

After crossing twice the big island divided between Santo Domingo and Haiti (before, and after the terrible earthquake that devastated Haiti in 2010). I made a stop over time at "Abriko, paradise of Indians" (Taïnos) in Grande Anse to meet former mayor Jean Claude Fignolet.
And quickly a special feeling close to the world of Hayao Miyazaki in the "Princess Mononoke" who used the ancient Japanese legends to pose the problem of relationships between man and nature inspired me for a composition of these soundscapes of real life collected at the "Abriko" and an expression "orchestral electroacoustic" dramaturgical embodying the spirits of nature face the repeated aggression of which it is the object, which in a sort of heavenly toe warn men destroying day after day the paradise balance of Grande Anse.
